______________
A Woman May Pray in any Clean Clothes that Cover her Private Parts, Except for Pants
In the name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace and blessings be upon the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers, Mohammed, the Messenger of Allaah, and upon those who follow him from the believers until the Day of Judgment
.
To those asking about the clothing of a woman during prayer, I tell you with the truth that I have found in the Book of Allaah, the Great Qur'an, only one condition for clothing, after covering the private parts, whether for a woman or a man. After covering the private parts, the condition is the cleanliness of the garment from obvious impurity or foul odor, in line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted
:
{ وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ (٣) وَثِیَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ (٤)}
Qur'an — Surah: al-Muddathir
And I do not mean foul odor from sweating, but rather what is visibly stained by impurities or what the nose can smell as foul due to impurities from human or animal waste. So, purify your garments as much as you can. There is no blame upon you if you pray in them while in the hardships of travel, in war striving in the way of Allaah to defend yourselves or your brothers, or if you are ill. So, Allaah has not permitted you to delay the prayer until the end of its prescribed times in the Book in order to purify your garments, perform ablution for your prayer, or purify your bodies from major impurity. Rather, perform your prayer, and Allaah will accept it from you, in line with the Word of Allaah the Exalted
:
Qur'an — Surah: al- Ma’idah — Verse: 06
So, Allaah has not placed any hardship on you in religion, except that it is not permissible for a woman to pray in pants. No matter how loose the pants are, for a woman, they are considered like undergarments. They are not considered modest clothing nor a proper covering for strangers. It is not permissible for a Muslim woman to wear jeans even in front of her mahrams (close male relatives whom she cannot marry).
Back to the topic of prayer clothing. It should be the same as the clothing worn in front of mahrams, or the jilbab (outer garment) worn in front of non-mahrams, with the condition that it be clean from visible impurities or foul odors. However, young women must wear the khimar (a.k.a Niqab/ full face cover) when praying in mosques, except for elderly women who are not required to wear the khimar in mosques, provided they are not adorned with make up. A woman’s prayer in her home, in her bedroom, or her private prayer space is better for her than praying in mosques, especially mixed mosques with men, as their appearance during prostration might be distracting. A woman is not like a man
.
And may Allaah hasten His mercy upon the believers and the oppressed, and His torment upon the criminals in Palestine and in various countries around the world. Do not think that Allaah is unaware of what the wrongdoers do. And you will come to know, O conspirators against the soldiers of Allaah, Hamas, from among the Arabs and non-Arabs, that they are the victorious ones in Palestine. May Allaah blind the eyes of their enemies and show them His miraculous power. May Allaah support those who support them and let down those who let them down and conspire against them. Surely, they will find no protector or helper besides Allaah. Peace be upon the messengers, and praise be to Allaah, Lord of the worlds
